The Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog is smaller than the Leonberger and the Newfoundland but this does not stop its' ability to pull their "weight".  Used in the Swiss Mountains as herding and carting dogs, they are extremely intelligent with a gentle nature.

These dogs get along with every family member, especially the children.  They do shed seasonally and you can relieve some of this with periodic brushings.  Males are  approximately 27 to 28 inches at the shoulder and weigh between  90 and 130 pounds.  Females are 25 to 26 inches at the shoulder and weigh 70 to 100 pounds.  Their striking tri-colored, weather resistant coat is symmetrically marked, a white cross across the chest is most desirable.  If you like smaller multi-colored dogs. with lots of intelligence and personality, the Bernese Mountain Dog just might be the dog for you!!!!!
